MIke, thank you for reading the blog. We at Misky don't take it for granted, as readers have a myriad choices today.

I was using this "Captain Kirk" reference as a metaphor. I have the entire collection of TOS on CD. In fact, I was lucky enough to be born early enough to have seen them broadcast originally and watched them on a black and white set. I once played Captain Kirk in a High School play. I have clippings from original TV guides, and numerous other items and icons in my collection, and I believe I have read every major actors' biography and the "making of" of the shows.

It is a well-known literary metaphor these days to contrast (and stereo-type) Kirk and Picard. Rest assured as Bill Shatner and Patrick Stewart are friends in real life, I also meant no slur to either of these fine actors or their portrayals on the small or big screens.

However, to you, Mike, and the fine Captains of the Enterprises and their portrayers, I offer my apologies.

I can't let the Captain Kirk smear go unanswered. May I suggest you watch some old Star Trek? You will find that Kirk usually made an effort to resolve conflicts nonviolently. Yes, there were shoot-em-ups, it was a 60's TV show after all, but there were actual, honest-to-god ideas snuck in to the stories. Lay the 3rd season decline in quality at the feet of Paramount and NBC where it belongs.
